Soma Fresh Fish

Lots of different items available for purchase, many already cooked and rest to eat. This was the first time I have ever seen whale on sale at a fish market. Plenty of puffer fish ready to eat and steaming hot. The place is very crowded and often narrow lanes to walk in, also the floor is wet so be careful.

Best fish variety , especially fugu fish

Excellent sushi and seafood don. Many variety and stalls to choose from. Sushi starts from only 100 yen and very good quality. A must visit if you are nearby.

Very fun stop. If you’re here I definitely recommend buying a platter of fresh cut fish for lunch or a snack. One can buy some fugu (pufferfish) at good prices as well. It’s also good just for browsing. It’s best to come a little earlier to get the best catches and deals.

Quality Seafood for nice price. Try to be here early morning, otherwise you will have to deal with the crowds before you get to sushi.

I love raw fish and sushi so I went there as soon as I got Shimonoseki. However, they open in the morning when I arrived, it was almost closing time.. just after lunch time(around 14:00). The sushi day is also on certain days not everyday as far as I recall. It was great disappointment for me but if you are on right timing, pls do not miss the market.

Fish market is visited not only by foreign tourists but also by Japanese tourists. sushi is cheap but looks good, however I think restaurants are better.

Very clean fish market, you can hardly smell fish. Lots of stores sell various things to taste like dried fish, sea weeds, Japanese cookies and ice cream.

What an awesome place! Freshest cheapest sushi ever with a huge variety with all the vendors. Cheap and easy parking. Recommend going earlier to beat the ques and crowds. Highly recommend.

Great experience and fresh seafood.

This is a nice, small fish market that is mainly a tourist attraction. We got some fairly good fresh sushi there, but it got really crowded when a tour flooded in full of Chinese tourists off a cruise ship. If I knew how to predict when that might happen, I would definitely time my visit to avoid that!

Take the train to mojiko and take on the ferry just follow the sign. Is easy to find. At karato Market if you are sushi lover you may like it of course subjective. The view surrounded also worth to spend sometime to walk around.

If you are fish lover eater then this is the best of best place in Japan. You will get any type of fish with frest seasonal ingredients rich in nutrients in a very cheap and best price. Awesome place to eat fresh sashimi for a fraction of a price. Weekend is the best time to go.

Reasonable price, good quality

Reached the place about 1130am, plenty of parking available at the parking complex next to the market. About half the shops were closed. Had a nice lunch there.

Only a few shops open on Friday morning. Although only 2 to 3 shops selling sushi were opened, there were still a large variety of sushi you can choose from. The food were fresh. Some people will enjoy the food bought from 1/F at the rest area at 2/F, or simply enjoy the food at the seaside.

It is very famous, but actually the fish market and the whole city is not that attractive. BTW they have a very good seaview.

Fresh sashimi and sushi. You can choose as many as you want in different stalls. The canteen is on the second floor. Also air-conditioned dried seafood stalls for you to buy souvenirs.

My cousin says it’s only open weekends and holidays. We went on 1/13 (Coming of Age Day). Got globefish soup, sushi, and some fried shrimp all for less than $15 USD. Come here for the experience and delicious sushi/sashimi! No entrance fee.

Rare and fresh sushi. If you canxt eat raw food , other choises as fried seafood or soup are available and very delicious too. Recommended to visit if you are around kitakyushu

It is sometimes busy but always great to go there for some seafood.

Maybe it was wrong timing but when i was there, most stores were closed and there isint that many things to do.

Closed on the day we got there due to a local event. Looks good though.

It opens only for weekend. It's over crowded with fresh food however seat is limited in the market. It's not a must go places for visitors as price is not that cheap.

I wish I could go again! Incredible variety of fish at reasonable prices. Quite busy but all stalls work really fast. The fish tastes so fresh and yummy. Also a great opportunity to try the famous blowfish fugu. Very nice experience. Totally worth it!

Price of all the stalls here are more or less the same, just choose whichever you prefer will do. Please take note that the stalls here only opens to public (for selling cooked/ prepared food) during Friday to Sunday only. Do check before you come to avoid disappointment.
